Mar 1 Update

 Hello! A very busy week! Please see below for a few pictures and explanations. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns! Thanks, Wendy One of the reading groups started Reader's Theater! Here they are going through their first script and picking their parts. All students will do a Reader's Theater over the next month. For those that really enjoy it, we will do a second round near the end of the year! Maps! Maps! Maps! We are focused on making and reading maps this week and next week. Here we are locating key places in our school on our Hopewell map. Next week, will make a big imaginary city map and then connect our city map to the other 1st grade city maps!  Mrs. Cooper led the students in a mindfulness exercise on Wednesday!

Feb 23 Update

 Hello! One important thing to mention this week: Zoo Field Trip:   First grade is excited to announce that we will be taking a field trip to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Thursday, May 9th!  As a first step, we are looking for  chaperones !! The details are as follows: - Date: Thursday, May 9th - Arrival Time: Chaperones will need to arrive at Hopewell by 9:30 am - Conclusion: Chaperones will be back at the school at the conclusion of the field trip by 2:30 pm - Price: $5 per chaperone (and will be $5 per student as well). If you have a zoo membership, you will be able to provide your zoo membership number from your membership card instead of paying the $5. - Background Check: Chaperones must complete a required  district volunteer background check , which takes no more than 5 minutes to complete but must be completed ASAP to get it processed in a timely manner. Feb 15 Update

 Hello! Fun week! Please see below for some landform salt dough creations, day of play fun and also our Friendship Party! Friendly reminder that there is no school on Fri or Mon for students. Here is the winter conference sign up . Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday! Thanks, Wendy I was too busy to get pictures as we were making the salt dough and creating our landforms : ) but here is the finished project from Day 1! In writing, we have each picked out a dog from the Franklin County Dog Shelter and will begin drawing the dog and writing our opinion on why the dog should be adopted! Here is our brainstorm on our 1st day of why dogs in general are GREAT! : ) Students may use some of these reasons or think of some of their own based on what their own assigned dog looks like!
