Jan 26 Update

Hello! Great week in 146! Please see below for some pictures! Here is the winter conference sign up . Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference. Thanks, Wendy So much indoor recess last week and this week! Here is one friend's creation! In the above picture, we are working on "close reading." We read a passage about sharks (and also one about sloths) and then went BACK into the reading to find the answers for our matching! This is the start of a skill that will be grown over the years for finding text evidence to support facts and opinions! We will take our non-fiction reading focus this week and transition it to writing next week as we wrapped up our opinion writing this week! More pictures of some indoor recess choices above and below. In the above and next few pictures below, we are using Mrs. Hogan's number line in the hallway to do some word problems and work on placing numbers in the correct place on a number...

Jan 19 Update

Hello! There always seems to be 1 week each year that goes by so quickly that I get to the end of the week and realize I've taken no pictures! This is that week I guess! : ) I had 1 lonely picture as of Thursday and then today is a snow day! Take my word for it - we were BUSY - with assessments, one-on-one reading, lots of indoor recess with the cold temperatures and some cool water and snowflake projects!  I must say, I am SO impressed and excited with the growth of each and every one of these students. Their formal assessments show so much growth, but also, they are talking and sharing and playing and working together flexibly and happily!!! They are GREAT human beings with so much potential! Feeling very thankful for this awesome class! Enjoy the snow day and have a great weekend! Wendy

Hello! We had a great full week of learning this week! For those that prefer to get things on their schedules in advance, here is the winter conference sign up . Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference. Please see below for pictures and captions sharing about our week! As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! Thanks, Wendy Enjoying a magic trick presented by a student! Ta-Dah! It's a rabbit pulled out of a hat! On Monday, we had guidance with Mrs. Cooper. Her lesson focus was on perseverance and having a growth mindset vs a "rock brain." In math this week, we first focused on 2D shapes (circle, square, triangle, rhombus, hexagon) and then moved to 3D shapes (sphere, cylinder, cone, cube, rectangular prism). We will circle back to these again later in the semester but have started to identify their different attributes such as numbers of edges, vertices and faces. In the picture above and pi...

Hello! Welcome back and off we go into our 2nd Semester together! Hope you had a happy and restful break! Didn't get many pictures in our very short week - just a 3D "Shape Hunt" today around the school (pictures below). Shapes are everywhere in our world! Yesterday, we talked about 2D Shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, circle), and then we introduced 3D Shapes today. We paid special attention today on the Sphere and the Cylinder. See if you can find some shapes as you are out and about! We will begin some winter testing this upcoming week. Our MAP Math test will be on Thurs, 1/11 and our MAP Reading test will be on Fri, 1/12. I will of course remind your child this is just 1 way we know "what you know" and "what you still need to know" so that I can team them better! On your end, the only suggestion is that they get a good night's sleep and a good breakfast on those days : )  If you have any questions as we head into January, please feel free to...
