One of the reading groups started Reader's Theater! Here they are going through their first script and picking their parts. All students will do a Reader's Theater over the next month. For those that really enjoy it, we will do a second round near the end of the year!

Maps! Maps! Maps! We are focused on making and reading maps this week and next week. Here we are locating key places in our school on our Hopewell map. Next week, will make a big imaginary city map and then connect our city map to the other 1st grade city maps! 


Mrs. Cooper led the students in a mindfulness exercise on Wednesday!

 Hello! And just like that, it what feels like a blink of an eye, the year has come to an end!! Thank you from the very bottom of my heart for sharing your WONDERFUL kids with me this year. It has been my great pleasure getting to know them, encourage them and teach them! And they teach me things every day too!!! All the best to you for a safe and fun summer! As seen above and below, on Monday, we enjoyed an art student interested in art education visiting! She came and drew chicks with us and then also drew some special characters by request! : ) Most seemed to be Pokemon! On Friday, we enjoyed a "field day" morning of play! There were 5 stations with some fun games and popsicles! I didn't get many pictures of them as I was leading one of the stations, so please ask them what all 5 activities were! Jan 5 Update

Hello! Welcome back and off we go into our 2nd Semester together! Hope you had a happy and restful break! Didn't get many pictures in our very short week - just a 3D "Shape Hunt" today around the school (pictures below). Shapes are everywhere in our world! Yesterday, we talked about 2D Shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, circle), and then we introduced 3D Shapes today. We paid special attention today on the Sphere and the Cylinder. See if you can find some shapes as you are out and about! We will begin some winter testing this upcoming week. Our MAP Math test will be on Thurs, 1/11 and our MAP Reading test will be on Fri, 1/12. I will of course remind your child this is just 1 way we know "what you know" and "what you still need to know" so that I can team them better! Hello! Winter break is nearing! Today, I am sending home 2 math games that your students know how to play as well as a "winter break reading challenge" in case they would like to play those games with you and/or read with you over break since it is quickly approaching! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Wendy Our future is bright! New shades from the Columbus Blue Jackets for doing our reading program! A big thank you to Mrs. Grimm, our weekly volunteer, who shared with us a book about Hanukkah as well as how she celebrates Hanukkah with her family. She also taught us how to play the Dreidel game, and everyone came home with the game piece today to play at home if interested! You just need coins, legos or some small item to use. We each started with 10 "gems" for our game here in the classroom. They should remember the rest, but please reach out if they forget! Playing the Dreidel game.
