How can it be that we are heading into the last week of school next week!
We have had a lot of excitement watching the chicks hatch this week! There was 1 early hatcher followed by another RIGHT after dismissal and then 10 overnight! Lucky for us, chicks 13, 14 and 15 hatched during the school day yesterday and we all got to see it happen in person! In the end, 15 of the 20 hatched, all in our incubator because Mrs. Hansen's incubator stopped working early on! We shared 1/2 with her of course today as we moved them from the incubator to the brooder and are enjoying our classroom pets immensely!!
Chick hatching is RICH in learning - we have done loads of science, vocabulary building and authentic math problems and writing! We will continue to play and hang out with the chicks next week!
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns as the year comes to a close!
Thanks so much,
Wendy
I realized I never got the kids in action in the art room all year! They love art and Mr. Simmons!
In first grade, we have a standard involving sharing our thinking and creating something digitally. Students wrote wonderful animal research projects in hard copy and then transferred that thinking to a story book digitally in Wixie. Each student then decided if they wanted to share their hard copy book or Wixie project of their animal. Above and below are 2 examples of students sharing their work!
The first chick!
Lots of watching and wondering!
We got to see this little friend come out of his shell. When they first come out, they are wet and exhausted!!! They fluff up after a few hours!
Because Mrs. Hanseon's incubator stopped on about Day 5, we had a lot of fun shared learning with her class in our room as we explored what we were seeing in the incubator!
2nd grade did their music program for us on Thursday!
Friday morning, we excitedly opened the incubator and moved the chicks to their brooder!!
We got them out in small groups to enjoy petting them today!
