April 26 Update

Hello!

I hope I see you tonight at the Spring Fling from 5 - 7 if you are able to attend! Should be a fun event!!

A few updates: 

End of Year Assessments: 

We will begin end of year testing on April 29. For about 2 weeks, I will pull students individually to do the DIBELS assessment that they did in the fall and winter. These are individual, one-on-one assessments.

Our whole class computer assessments will be on Wed, 5/1 at 9:45 am for the Math MAP and Thurs, 5/2 at 9:45 am for the Reading MAP. 

As a reminder, these are to help guide instruction and are just 1 "moment in time" as a snapshot of your student's learning. Please simply support them by giving them a good night's sleep the night before and a good breakfast each morning on 5/1 and 5/2. That's it! : ) Thanks!

Chick Hatching:

We excitedly received our hatching eggs on Thurs and placed them in the incubator. Pictures below. LOTS of great observations already, and we are excited to candle them, monitor the humidity and temperature, turn them, etc. throughout the process! With a 21 day incubation time, the hatch date is Wed, 5/15 give or take a day or so of course! Fingers crossed!! : )

In math this week, we focused on placement value. With this game, students rolled to find the 10s amount and the 1s amount and then built that number and wrote it. 




Next up, a "scoot" around the school to find 30 different place value numbers! Always great when we can get up and moving!




In this picture, you can also see the habitats that we created in the hallways last week!


The eggs have arrived! We had a great "where's the math" conversation with the carton that they shipped in as well as " see notice wonder" conversations.
How many eggs would this hold all together? If 4 white and 16 brown, how many "in all?" If I ordered 28 eggs, would they fit in this box? Etc. 

You can see the markings on the eggs to label the variety of chickens that we got. We looked them all up and ooh'ed and aah'ed at how cute they are!

 Hello! And just like that, it what feels like a blink of an eye, the year has come to an end!! Thank you from the very bottom of my heart for sharing your WONDERFUL kids with me this year. Jan 5 Update

Hello! Welcome back and off we go into our 2nd Semester together! Hope you had a happy and restful break! Didn't get many pictures in our very short week - just a 3D "Shape Hunt" today around the school (pictures below). Shapes are everywhere in our world! Yesterday, we talked about 2D Shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, circle), and then we introduced 3D Shapes today. We paid special attention today on the Sphere and the Cylinder. See if you can find some shapes as you are out and about! We will begin some winter testing this upcoming week. Our MAP Math test will be on Thurs, 1/11 and our MAP Reading test will be on Fri, 1/12. I will of course remind your child this is just 1 way we know "what you know" and "what you still need to know" so that I can team them better! Hello! Winter break is nearing! Today, I am sending home 2 math games that your students know how to play as well as a "winter break reading challenge" in case they would like to play those games with you and/or read with you over break since it is quickly approaching! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Wendy Our future is bright! New shades from the Columbus Blue Jackets for doing our reading program! A big thank you to Mrs. Grimm, our weekly volunteer, who shared with us a book about Hanukkah as well as how she celebrates Hanukkah with her family. She also taught us how to play the Dreidel game, and everyone came home with the game piece today to play at home if interested! You just need coins, legos or some small item to use.
