Mar 29 Update

 Hello!

It's been great returning from Spring Break and getting back into our routines!

One main administrative item to highlight: Zoo Field Trip!! In need of chaperones!! First grade is excited to announce that we will be taking a field trip to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Thursday, May 9th! As a first step, we are looking for chaperones!!

The details are as follows:

- Date: Thursday, May 9th
- Arrival Time: Chaperones will need to arrive at Hopewell by 9:30 am
- Conclusion: Chaperones will be back at the school at the conclusion of the field trip by 2:30 pm
- Price: $5 per chaperone (and will be $5 per student as well). If you have a zoo membership, you will be able to provide your zoo membership number from your membership card instead of paying the $5.
- Background Check: Chaperones must complete a required district volunteer background check, which takes no more than 5 minutes to complete but must be completed ASAP to get it processed in a timely manner. You can click here to complete the volunteer background check

As a chaperone you will be responsible for a few students while exploring the zoo so we ask that you not bring additional children (example: siblings) with you. With the group of children you are chaperoning you will walk with them around the zoo, carrying their lunches in a bag/backpack and check in with the whole class at appointed times.

We would love to have you join us as a chaperone!

Please let me know via email if you are willing to chaperone and let me know both if you have a zoo membership currently and if you were able to complete the volunteer background check or need any assistance in completing it.

Please see below for some fun pictures from our week!
Thanks,
Wendy

Here, we are exploring our map and tallying how many "goods" and how many "services" we have. Ask your child what the difference is between a good and service!

FUN week of Reading March Madness. The 5 1st grade teachers and 3 support teachers each picked their favorite book and we rotated and read our books to each class!

Here, the kids are working on a rich math problem based on Mrs. Hogan's book, One Chicken Nugget!

Goldfish Swim School came on Wednesday for an assembly on water safety! Thank you, Goldfish Swim School, for sharing such an important message!!

Time to make some pizza fractions! In math, we talked about halves, quarters and thirds this week. For many, this was their first exposure to fractions, and they did a great job learning about fractions and the idea of parts in a whole.

Mrs. McCreary is sharing her chosen book above : )

Fraction game!
