Feb 2 Update

 Hello!

It was a fun week celebrating the 100th day of school and also enjoying an author visit. Please see below for pictures of our week!

A few important notes:

We will have a Friendship Party on Feb 14th! All students are writing a friendship/kindness note to each other here in our classroom during writing and morning work over the next 2 weeks, so everyone will have a bag of notes on Feb. 14th to enjoy! If your child also wants to bring in a traditional "valentine" to pass out on Feb. 14 to their classmates, they are welcome to do that, but it is optional.

Here is the winter conference sign up. Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference.

For those that enjoy Menchie's (yummmm!), there is a fundraising going on right now with 20% of sales coming back to Hopewell! Please see the attached flyer below.

A Phonics 95 Assessment came home on Thursday. We finished up and assessed consonant digraphs and the floss rule. We are now heading to the Long Vowel Silent-e Syllable Type! Ask them what they know about "long vowel silent-e" and see if they can show you the hand signal we use to identify words with this syllable type.

Have a great weekend and, as always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

My daughter came in and hid my 100 collection the day before the 100th day! So much fun! 100 LITTLE ducks to find!!

Filling in our 100s chart as we searched for ducks

After our first 100 second "duck hunt" around the room, the kids fund 82 of the ducks!!

By the end of the morning, we were at 99!!!! Where was that last tricky duck? Ask your child to see if they remember : )

Funny picture - but we did a 100 second challenge, including counting how many times we could stick our tongue out in 100 seconds!

Here we are putting our 100 collections on the balance as we explored heavier/lighter as well as the greater than (>) less than (<) and equal sign (=) based on what the balance showed.

On Friday, we enjoyed listening to author Dia Mixon. Her books celebrate diversity and multiculturalism.

In content and writing, we are exploring landforms. Today, the students picked a landform to research on PebbleGo and wrote 3 facts to share with the class about that landform. We will continue to explore landforms and their characteristics next week.
