Jan 26 Update
Hello!
Great week in 146! Please see below for some pictures!
Here is the winter conference sign up. Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference.
Thanks,
Wendy
So much indoor recess last week and this week! Here is one friend's creation!
In the above picture, we are working on "close reading." We read a passage about sharks (and also one about sloths) and then went BACK into the reading to find the answers for our matching! This is the start of a skill that will be grown over the years for finding text evidence to support facts and opinions! We will take our non-fiction reading focus this week and transition it to writing next week as we wrapped up our opinion writing this week!
More pictures of some indoor recess choices above and below.
In the above and next few pictures below, we are using Mrs. Hogan's number line in the hallway to do some word problems and work on placing numbers in the correct place on a number line!
An example of the thinking that we did would be something like: "If Elsa (on 7) wants to go and visit Princess Peach (on 16), how many times does she have to jump if she "jumps" 1 number at a time on the number line? What equation would show that thinking? 7 + ? = 16 or 16 - 7 = 9
The kids loved this thinking and moving on the number line. The number line is a strong visual to help students add (to the right) and subtract (to the left) by hopping along the number line and will be used more throughout 1st grade and in 2nd grade.
We also noticed how 35 would be "in the middle" of 30 and 40 where 42 would be "closer to 40 than 50" on the number line.
Finally on Thursday, we got outside for recess! YAY!
In the picture above and pictures below, we are making our "best snowman yet" based on the book I'm Going To Build a Snowman. It's a delightful book about growth, perseverance and embracing "perfectly imperfect!"
Our snow person creations from the book - no scissors allowed!
