Jan 12 Update

Hello! We had a great full week of learning this week!

For those that prefer to get things on their schedules in advance, here is the winter conference sign up. Conferences will be Feb 21 and Feb 22 and can be virtual or in person based on your preference.

Please see below for pictures and captions sharing about our week!

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

Thanks,

Wendy

Ta-Dah! It's a rabbit pulled out of a hat!

On Monday, we had guidance with Mrs. Cooper. Her lesson focus was on perseverance and having a growth mindset vs a "rock brain."

In math this week, we first focused on 2D shapes (circle, square, triangle, rhombus, hexagon) and then moved to 3D shapes (sphere, cylinder, cone, cube, rectangular prism). We will circle back to these again later in the semester but have started to identify their different attributes such as numbers of edges, vertices and faces. In the picture above and pictures below, students are trying to create 3D shapes out of playdoh.

In science, we started our exploration of water. Water is everywhere on our Earth! We introduced the idea of water as a solid, liquid and gas and had fun watching our solid ice snow person melt throughout the day into liquid water. We made observations in our notebook at 5 times during the day as our snowman, which the kids named "Joker," slowly melted!

On Wednesday, we had a town hall meeting. We celebrated our coin drive before the holidays which ultimately presented $450 to the Ronald McDonald House. We also made and donated 30 blankets for families that are staying there.

On Thursday, we had "Free Choice time" for filling the gem jar. The picture above and pictures below show their choices during that time of flexibility and fun!
