Sept 8 Update

Hello!

It was great to see so many of you at our curriculum night tonight! If you were unable to attend, here is the presentation we walked through, and you can feel free to reach out with any questions.

Morning work in building math fluency - "roll, add and color"

On Thursday, we spent 20 full minutes working on 1 "WOW" picture each individually but at the carpet together. We were not allowed to say "I'm Done" but instead looked for more details to add to show where we are, what we are doing, what is in the background, etc. The goal as beginning writers is to create a "wow" picture that will support our writing. For example, if I "see" a birthday cake with 6 candles and pink icing with sprinkles, then I can try to stretch and write about those amazing details too!

First sketching...

Then adding more and more color and details!

In math, we talked about counting by 2's and 5's. We enjoyed counting our shoes in pairs as we "skip" counted.

To count by 5's, everyone held up their 5 fingers on each hand. As the leader went around and gave each hand a high five, they would lower that hand as we chorally counted by 5's.
Lots of chances at home to count by 5's and by 2's - count shoes, hands, whatever you can find! The kids noticed how counting by 2's or 5's can be more "efficient" (faster!) than counting by 1's.

On Thursday, we had guidance with Mrs. Cooper. We will have guidance once each month following the district's guidance curriculum.
