First Day!

 Hi everyone!

We had a GREAT 1st day in 1st grade!

I will be using this blogger site to periodically post pictures and updates from our learning as well as share important information. I will try to always include pictures because I know it is fun to see our learners in action! Additionally, looking through the pictures WITH your first grader is often a great way to get them talking and sharing about their day as the pictures help to remind them what we did and are great conversation starters!

If you have not yet done so, please click on this Getting To Know You form to share some information with me about your first grader. No one knows your student better than you do! As a parent, your thoughts and ideas about your child are a valuable resource. The more I know and understand about your child, the more effective I can be as their teacher.

For our first post, I wanted to simply share a few pictures from our FIRST DAY to make you all smile and let you know that everyone had a great day! It is a LONG day for first grade, particularly as we get going! So, fair warning, they will be coming home tired!

Thanks so much for sharing your child with me today! Please let me know as we get going if you have any questions or concerns.

Recess!

We talked about how we all have lots of feelings - and different feelings on different days and different feelings throughout one day! Here's how we were feeling on our first day!

Your child has a blue folder in their backpack. This will be their "Take Home Folder" that comes to school and goes home from school every day. This will be where they put their things to take home, and, similarly, if you have any notes for me, you can return them in this blue folder as well.

In the folder today, there is a "keypad" with your child's name and their student ID on it. This will be their student ID while at Dublin City Schools. In first grade, their ID is primarily used when going through the lunch line if buying lunches. Parents put money on their child's student account in PaySchools for purchased lunches. If your child plans on buying their lunch, they can practice their code at home with this sheet! I also have the "buyers" in the class practice their code each morning if they select to buy a lunch for that day. In usually just a few short weeks, the students have it memorized! Until then, the cafeteria staff can always look up their student ID number if they forget their ID number or do not yet have it memorized. This sheet, again, is optional for students to practice their code at home if they plan to sometimes buy lunches at school. Thanks for your support in helping the lunch line run smoothly!

And finally, a few pictures to show you that everyone was smiling after a great first day as we were packed up and ready to head home!
