Aug 18 Update

 Hello!

What a great first 2 days we have had in 1st grade!  Quite a few things to share as we get started! I promise all of my updates won't be this lengthy!

1) Water Bottles: Please send water bottles! It's quite hot, and first graders play hard at recess! There is a water fountain for those that don't bring one. It just helps the long line if at least most can bring water bottles. Thanks!

2) Lunch: The lunch menu can be found at this linkIt is published monthly online. You can look at what is being served in advance if you want to consider if your child wants to buy or pack for a certain day.

3) Specials: We will have ""Specials" (Related Arts) on the following 4-day rotation:
  • A Day = Library
  • B Day = Music
  • C Day = PE (Gym shoes required)*
  • D Day = Art
  • So, for example, for this upcoming week:
    • Mon 8/21 = C Day (PE)
    • Tues 8/22 = D Day (Art)
    • Wed 8/23 = A Day (Library)
    • Thurs 8/24 = B Day (Music)
    • Fri 8/25 = C Day (PE)
    • The following Monday, we will continue with D Day as we continue the rotation
4) Gym Shoes: An extra reminder to wear appropriate shoes on C Day when we have Physical Education please!

5) Spirit Wear: If you are interested in purchasing Hopewell spirit wear, please click on this link. A portion of the purchase does benefit Hopewell.

6) Back To School Social: Please join your Hopewell friends on Friday, Aug 25th from 5 - 6:30 for some back to school fun! Kona Ice and Whit's ice cream will be available for purchase. This event is sponsored by the PTO and is a great way for the students (and parents!) to come together in the event to play and have some fun! I am hoping to attend with my daughter, Ruby (grade 4) as well to say hello! The information for this event is listed in a picture below.

Thank you for your support of these fabulous first graders at home! And now...some pictures!

Wendy

We made our first "class book" - Rockin' in our School Shoes! We each created a page for the class book and enjoyed reading it together when it was completed! This tied closely into our beloved Pete the Cat character and his book about rockin' in his shoes!

We also got to make our own Pete the Cat today. Those are coming home this afternoon for your student to show you.

Classroom Scavenger Hunt!

After we found all of the book bins in our classroom library sprinkled throughout the room, students here are "book shopping" for books to put in their book bins. Their book bins will ultimately grow to include a poetry binder, "just right" books, a thinking notebook, classroom books, etc! For now, they all have some books they are excited to explore next week as we launch Reading Workshop!

Hope to see you at this event!
